Living with Intention
Intention isn’t about rigid goals or outcomes. It’s not about fixing anything or proving myself. It’s a quiet question I ask my heart. It’s the energy I bring into a conversation, a yoga practice, a walk in the woods, or a moment of stillness. It’s the whisper that says: stay close to what matters.
Life has been a lot lately, in both beautiful and challenging ways. It’s easy to slip into autopilot when life gets busy or uncertain, so I’ve been thinking a lot about what it really means to live with intention.
For me, it’s about slowing down, tuning in, and moving through the day with presence. It’s the sacred pause before the “yes,” the space between thought and action. It’s checking in with my body, breath, and heart and asking:
Is this mine to carry? Is this what I need? Is this in alignment with my values?
“Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom.”
It shows up in how I eat, how I love, and how I rest. It’s remembering that I am co-creating my life with the Universe, and that I get to choose how I want to move through it all.
Living intentionally isn’t always easy. Old habits pull at us. The world still demands. But I’m learning to trust the quiet knowing within, that says, You don’t have to rush. You don’t have to prove anything. You get to choose.
So, I’m choosing slow and sacred. And every day I have to remind myself to return to that choice, again and again.
This is especially true in ceremony. Working with plant medicines isn’t something I take lightly. These sacred allies meet us exactly where we are, but they also ask something of us. They ask for truth and reverence. They don’t respond to what we want to achieve, but to what we’re ready to feel, see, or remember. They require thoughtful intention. I like to form my intention as a request to the medicine, which might sound something like:
“Help me to lead with love.”
“Show me the next right step.”
“Guide me back to the part of me that remembers.”
An intention like this doesn’t demand answers. It gives the medicine something to work with as it weaves its way through my body and spirit. But the real work comes after the ceremony ends.
Living with intention means I don’t leave those sacred moments at the altar. It means I keep coming back to them, in the way I speak, the actions I take, and the choices I make.
Setting intentions is more than a preparation for ceremony - it is a way of life. When we live intentionally, we honor the sacred in the everyday. We become active participants in our healing and growth.
Whether you’re preparing for ceremony or simply navigating the ebb and flow of everyday life, you’re allowed to move slowly. You’re allowed to change your pace. You’re allowed to rest and re-align. That’s the path.
If you feel the call of the medicine or a quiet longing for something more, there’s space for that here. I invite you to book a Discovery Call with me below. Use the promo code “Intention” for a complimentary session. Let’s have a conversation and see where it leads.
You don’t have to have it all figured out. You just have to be willing to begin. When you are, reach out. I’m here for you.
The Journey Within
The butterfly serves as a powerful symbol of healing and transformation. From childhood fascination to spiritual rebirth, the butterfly has mirrored the beautiful, often difficult path of becoming. She reminds us to embrace change, surrender into the unknown, and discover the strength within to emerge renewed. Whether you're just beginning or deep in your journey, this is a call to remember: you are the butterfly.
The butterfly emerges
I’ve always loved butterflies. From the pressed butterfly art of my childhood to my first tattoo in my twenties, they have captivated me with their delicate beauty and graceful presence. Across cultures and centuries, the butterfly has served as a symbol of transformation, rebirth, and the soul’s journey from darkness to light. It has also been a mirror of my own path, reminding me of the inevitability of change, and the profound beauty it brings.
The butterfly has become intimately woven into my relationship with plant medicine as well. It speaks to the art of surrender, the mystery of diving into the unknown, and the quiet miracle of becoming. So when it came time to reimagine my business and allow my work to emerge from its cocoon, it felt natural that the butterfly would become the symbol of Journey to You, lovingly crafted with the support of Lp and Brandango.co.
When I first sat with sacred plant medicine, I didn’t yet know I was entering my own cocoon. I came seeking healing, but what I found was the deeper invitation: to unravel, to soften, to meet myself beyond all the stories and identities I had carried. Much like the caterpillar, I was asked to let go of everything I thought I was and remember my true nature.
Sitting with the medicine—stepping into the cocoon—is an inward journey. In the darkness, stillness, and silence of that sacred space, something unseen begins to stir. It is an uncomfortable and beautiful in-between, a liminal space where miracles and magic quietly unfold.
Plant medicine doesn’t do the work for us; it simply reveals what’s possible. And just as the butterfly must press against the walls of the cocoon to emerge, we too must find the strength to unfold ourselves into new life. We step tenderly into a world that looks the same, though we have been forever changed.
This is where the true journey begins; when the experience is brought into our daily life and the insights we gained begin to take root. Over time, we begin to see life differently. We speak more clearly from the heart. We listen with more presence. We love more freely and feel more deeply. And, eventually, we learn to trust the strength of our wings.
At a time when people are longing for deeper healing, meaning, and connection, both the butterfly and plant medicine offer the same wisdom: true transformation asks for courage, patience, and deep trust in the unseen. Whether through ceremony or the slow blossoming of daily life, the path remains the same—surrender, dissolve, emerge.
Like the caterpillar that instinctively knows that it must turn inward to grow, I too have been called to this path of transformation. It is a calling not only to heal myself, but to guide others to their own healing, and to help transform old stories and limiting beliefs about the healing power of cannabis and sacred mushrooms.
Regardless of where you are on your journey, remember that you are the butterfly. Transformation is not the absence of struggle, but the courage to meet it with awareness and grace. I’m deeply honored to be a guide on your journey, to help you safely explore your inner landscape and walk with you the path home to yourself.
Hi. I’m Amy, Your trusted guide.
Hi, I’m Amy Sawyer, certified yoga therapist and sacred medicine guide. From the time I was a child, I wanted to be a helper. Today, I am.
From the time I was a child, I was drawn to healing professions. I have a memory book that I would complete each school year to document various details, a snapshot of my life at the time–my school picture, my teacher’s name, my best friend, hobbies, and what I wanted to be when I grew up. The answers varied from year to year: kindergarten, nurse; 2nd grade, teacher; 4th grade, veterinarian; 8th grade, eye doctor; 12th grade, physical therapist. There was a common theme – being of service to others in some way.
I wanted to be a helper.
I landed in the pharmaceutical research industry after college, where I felt I was helping bring medicines to the market that would save lives, or at least improve them. I worked primarily on infectious disease trials (HIV, Hepatitis C, Influenza, RSV to name a few) and found a deep sense of purpose in my work for many years. A small health crisis, which I later realized was connected to the immense daily stress as a global project manager, nudged me to take a hard look at my lifestyle. It was clear that I needed to redefine my idea of health, wellness, and success.
Eventually, I left the security of my corporate job to open a small health food store where I could guide others to their healing on a more intimate level. The next 10 years were spent running the shop and wearing the many hats that came with owning a small business. My favorite part was connecting personally with customers, hearing their stories, and working together to find natural solutions.
During this time, I began to embrace my then on-again, off-again yoga practice. I enrolled in yoga teacher training to focus on some much needed self-care. My passion for yoga and the profound spiritual growth that evolved from my practice led me to further therapeutic training. The result was a certification as a trauma-informed yoga therapist, where I really learned to hold space for others’ healing.
In the midst of the pandemic, a trusted friend and colleague introduced me to microdosing psilocybin mushrooms. I had experimented with psychedelics in my younger days, but usually with a dose higher than I could handle in public and never with any thought to intention. This was different. Taking a small, barely perceptual dose of psilocybin every few days helped me to feel lighter and less anxious amidst the chaos and uncertainty of life at that time.
Fast forward 2 years later when my marriage of 20 years began to fall apart, and the magic mushroom was one of the healing tools I leaned heavily into to help keep me grounded and functional. I took my first high dose, deeply healing mushroom journey that summer, which was rooted in ceremony, reverence, and intention. I was transformed, and before I left that sacred container, I knew from some unexplainable place deep within that this was the work I was meant to do in the world.
As I navigated the ground-shaking changes taking place and the immense uncertainty for my future, microdosing became an anchor, along with my yoga practice and a strong community of support. I closed my retail business and relied on my trauma-informed training through yoga therapy, my experience, and my intuition to help guide others who were on their own path to healing through altered states of consciousness.
I worked for Mindbloom as a psychedelic guide and integration coach for clients undergoing ketamine-assisted therapy for 2 years, and began holding space for friends who were seeking healing with the support of plant medicine, while also continuing my own self-discovery with microdosing and deeper journey work.
Yoga therapy (meditation, breathwork, lifestyle choices, and physical practice) provided me with so many beautiful tools for self awareness and nervous system regulation. The addition of sacred plant medicine helped to expedite my healing to another level, reconnecting me with my authentic self.
Sacred plant medicines have the power to open doors in our minds, allowing us to access repressed memories and buried parts of ourselves that are longing to be healed. Whether or not we feel safe to walk the path and meet ourselves in this uncharted territory depends not only on the medicine, but the skill and presence of the person guiding the journey.
I’ve learned from my journey work, training, and through holding space for others the qualities that are essential to be a good guide:
Compassion. Empathy. Integrity. Trust. Calm & Abiding Presence.
Safety is paramount, providing a foundation for true transformation, when you’re in a vulnerable space. Whether working with clients through yoga therapy or accessing expanded states with plant medicine, I lead with compassion and curiosity.
I’ve co-hosted a weekend retreat for women who each had a transformative experience with the help of sacred mushrooms. I’ve guided hundreds of clients through their first ketamine experience, helping them clarify their intentions and integrate their experiences into daily life. I’ve provided support with journey preparation and integration and held space for numerous individual clients in sacred ceremony with mushrooms.
Through the Center for Medicinal Mindfulness, I completed an immersive training that yielded a certification as an advanced psychedelic guide. I continue to seek learning opportunities to stay informed on industry best practices. Throughout my career, I’ve thrived in an environment where I’m able to use my gifts of empathy, presence, intuition, and a calm and gentle presence to guide and inspire others.
I am not a healer, rather a guide on your path to healing. It’s not the facilitator or the medicine that heals; they simply support and amplify the wisdom that already lives inside you. The safety of the container that is created for the journey, along with the boundaries we hold and our relationship with each other is what determines what comes next. The safer you feel, the deeper you’ll go, and I’m committed to holding a safe space for you to walk the path home to yourself.
My memory book as proof, I wanted to be a helper. Today, I am.
“I felt incredibly safe while on my journey with Amy as my facilitator. Her calm and gentle demeanor allowed me to fully surrender to the process as it unfolded. She asked questions that helped me articulate certain themes. She was fully supportive before, during and after my integration. I am so grateful for this experience!”
